Getriin Kotsar’s debut production, “Atlas,” will premiere on November 16 at Kanuti Gildi Saal, a performance venue, ERR reports. Three people explore their memories as cartographers, seeking to create a “new map” that serves both as an archive and as a forecast for future generations.

The production centres on three people whose actions on stage are shaped by personal and collective psychological and geographical experiences. Performers Kirte Jõesaar, Maria Helena Seppik and Elina Soosaar appear in the production.

“I’m interested in how to engage poetically with somewhat dry subjects such as documentation, measurement and statistics,” Kotsar said. She added that the constant flow of events in the world makes her want to filter out the noise and select only what is necessary, raising questions about what matters and who decides.

“I like precision and well-developed structures,” Kotsar said. In “Atlas,” the three performers draw out those structures in their own ways and carry out what she described as “cleaning and excavation work.”

Kotsar is a freelance director whose performance and literary works draw mainly on dreams, memories, pop culture, the human body and everyday life. Kanuti Gildi Saal artistic director Eneli Järs said the venue supports young artists who have recently graduated from university in creating their first productions. Rehearsals for “Atlas” took place partly in the city and in nature before the production moved to Püha Vaimu Saal.
