Eighteen people briefly left their homes in Kėdainiai on Sunday evening after a gas leak, LRT reported.

Emergency services received a call at 7.55pm from an apartment on Mindaugas Street, where a gas tap had come open and could not be shut. The caller, who was alone with young children, was advised to go outside.

Firefighters found a loose pipe leading to the gas meter and smelled gas. They told 18 people in the building’s stairwell to leave because they could not tighten the pipe themselves.

Gas service workers found that the gas concentration in the apartment was low and not dangerous. The apartment and stairwell were ventilated, and residents were allowed to return.
