Artist Mauri Gross has opened an oil-painting exhibition, “The Eagle Has Square Eggs,” at the ARS project space in Tallinn, bringing to a close a series of three earlier exhibitions and a promise linked to them, ERR reports.
Gross said he had promised to add one work to each of the three exhibitions, but it took him nine years to fulfil that commitment. The current show partly continues “Mercy,” “Green Transition” and “Clean Soil.” It also includes the other half of a paired work that won the audience prize at last spring’s exhibition.
Gross said he sees visual culture as something to look at first, then think about and discuss. Viewers do not have to agree with what is said, he added, and what remains hidden may become clear at the exhibition.
The project space’s smaller hall features a work titled “Packaged Beauty.” Gross described it as a small intrigue intended to encourage people to visit exhibitions. The work will go from the show to an art enthusiast; if someone misses it here, they may encounter some of its packaging at a future exhibition, he said.
Gross’s exhibition is open at the ARS project space until November 3.
