Vanemuine premieres Lotte musical centered on Dr Ave’s wedding
Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu is staging Priit Pajusaar’s sixth Lotte-themed musical, “The Wedding Party in Inventor Village,” ERR reports. The story follows preparations for the grand wedding of Dr Ave and Mihkel the rabbit.
Unlike earlier Lotte musicals, which revolved around Lotte, the teenage dog and her friends are in the background this time. Dr Ave takes centre stage as she experiences love for the first time, actor Nele-Liis Vaiksoo said.
Director Ain Mäeots said the story’s treatment of love and advice on how women and men might approach one another could appeal to adults as well as children. He praised the script by Janno Põldma.
Pajusaar said the music is more varied and complex than in previous Lotte musicals, and includes an opera within the musical. Vaiksoo said the family production is physically demanding for its performers.
Vanemuine has staged Lotte musicals for 18 years.
