Forecaster predicts warm autumn weather, rainiest day Thursday

Warm and mostly dry autumn weather will prevail in Lithuania over the coming days, but cloud cover and rain will increase in the middle of the week, LRT reported, citing Edita Gečaitė of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

Tuesday night will bring considerable cloud cover, with brief rain in some areas. Fog forming in many districts during the second half of the night may make driving conditions more difficult.

Western Lithuania will remain cloudy during the day, while clearer spells will develop in the east. Brief rain is expected only in isolated locations. Overnight temperatures will fall to 9 to 14 degrees Celsius, or 15 to 17 degrees near the coast. Daytime temperatures will reach 17 to 21 degrees.

Wednesday night will be calm, partly cloudy and dry, although fog may again reduce visibility in some places. Most of the day will remain dry, but rain will appear in places in the evening as cloud cover increases and winds strengthen.

“There will be brief rain in some western districts in the evening. Winds from the south will begin to strengthen, reaching 7 to 12 metres per second,” Gečaitė said.

Temperatures will range from 7 to 12 degrees overnight on Wednesday and from 13 to 14 degrees near the coast. Daytime temperatures will rise to as high as 23 degrees.

Thursday is expected to be the wettest day of the week, with rain both during the day and at night. Southerly winds will turn southwesterly and then westerly, strengthening during the day to 8 to 13 metres per second. Overnight temperatures will be 11 to 16 degrees, while daytime temperatures will reach 15 to 20 degrees.

Weather conditions will improve again on Friday. Although brief rain is still possible in some places, more sunshine is expected during the day. Temperatures will fall to 7 to 12 degrees overnight, or 13 to 14 degrees near the coast, before rising to 17 to 22 degrees during the day.

Saturday will be dry overall, though brief rain is possible in places, mainly in the northwestern part of the country. Winds will remain fairly strong and blow from the south and southwest. Overnight temperatures will fall to 9 to 14 degrees, or 14 to 16 degrees along the Baltic Sea coast, while daytime temperatures will reach 17 to 22 degrees.
