Lithuania expects clarity on US troop presence soon

Lithuania hopes to receive clearer information soon regarding the continued presence of US troops in the country, according to Deividas Matulionis, chief advisor to President Gitanas Nausėda, as reported by LRT.

Speaking to LRT Radio, Matulionis stated that Lithuania anticipates the return of US forces, possibly in greater numbers than before. He highlighted positive signals from Poland, where US troops supporting Baltic security are stationed. Poland is expected to receive more US soldiers within three months, as reported by Polish newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Sprawna.

Matulionis also noted that a decision on establishing a permanent US military base in Poland could be made within 6-12 months, citing unofficial sources. He declined to speculate on whether President Nausėda might receive confirmation from US officials during the NATO summit in Ankara, stating only: “It’s hard to say—it could happen, or a little later. These days, it should be decided.”
