Theatrum will premiere “To Live Is to Be Another,” a production based on the work of Fernando Pessoa, on November 4, ERR reports. Maria Peterson and Mirko Rajas are directing the collaboration between Theatrum and the Estonian Youth Theatre.
The production weaves together Pessoa’s poetry, prose and reflections, bringing melancholy and humour, everyday life and fantasy, solitude and longing for closeness into a poetic landscape.
Musician Ramuel Tafenau will create a live soundscape on percussion throughout the performance, combining sound with words, movement and light.
Peterson and Rajas said they approached Pessoa’s work through moods, images and perceptions rather than by telling a single story. They described the production as an attempt to give stage form to inner restlessness and longing, while leaving room for audiences to encounter Pessoa’s world and their own thoughts.
Peterson and Rajas are also the production’s dramaturgs. Epp Kubu is the set designer, Maria Solei Järvet is the choreographer and Tafenau is the music designer. The cast includes Erik Richard Salumäe, Hardi Möller of the Estonian Youth Theatre, Tarmo Song, Ott Aardam, Järvet and Tafenau.
