Kaunas activates emergency plan after suspected grenade found near store

Kaunas authorities activated the emergency plan “Skydas” (Shield) on Wednesday after a suspected hand grenade was found near a store, the Police Department reported.

A suspicious object resembling a hand grenade was discovered around 11:50 AM on Baltų Prospektas, placed on a concrete barrier near a retail outlet. The “Skydas” plan was initiated, and bomb disposal experts from the “Aro” unit determined the object was a hand grenade without a detonator or explosive material. The device was removed for further examination.

A 35-year-old man, born in 1989, was detained in connection with the incident. Police confirmed he was intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 0.96 per mille. A pre-trial investigation has been launched.
