Kaunas to build €13.3 million extreme sports complex for youth
Kaunas Municipality will transform a former industrial building into a large-scale extreme sports facility for children and young people, with construction set to begin following a €13.3 million international public tender, BNS reports.
The complex, located on S. Dariaus and S. Girėno Street near the city’s historic aerodrome, will occupy a repurposed factory hall and surrounding outdoor space. Designed as a dedicated hub for street sports, it will feature infrastructure for skateboarding, scooters, BMX biking, and parkour, catering to both beginners and advanced athletes.
Covering approximately 4,000 square metres indoors, the facility will include training ramps of varying difficulty, a safe practice zone, a modern pentathlon obstacle course, and a climbing wall. Project developers emphasise the goal of creating a space where participants of all ages and skill levels—from amateurs to professionals—can develop their abilities while fostering growth in Lithuania’s extreme sports community.
Additional amenities will comprise administrative offices, a café, equipment rental services, and restrooms. The design will incorporate distinctive visual elements inspired by interwar Kaunas modernist and Art Deco architecture, with graphic motifs celebrating the Lithuanian ANBO aircraft—a nod to the site’s aviation heritage.
According to planning documents, the project aims to “establish conditions for active engagement in diverse physical activities, ensuring a safe environment where both enthusiasts and professionals can refine their skills and contribute to the expansion of these sports disciplines.”
