Kaunas, public order, Remigijus Žemaitaitis

A man has been fined €15 for disrupting public order during a voter meeting with Lithuanian MP Remigijus Žemaitaitis in Kaunas, police confirmed Friday.

Kaunas police concluded an administrative case this week against the man, who allegedly used offensive language during the January 27 event, according to Odeta Vaitkevičienė, head of communications for the Kaunas County Chief Police Commissariat.

“On March 3, the man was issued a protocol for an administrative violation and fined €15. He publicly insulted another man in a way that was audible to others, deliberately violating public peace and order,” Vaitkevičienė said.

A separate administrative investigation remains ongoing into other incidents at the same meeting, including potential violations of minors’ rights. Police are examining whether participants unlawfully restricted a child’s ability to exercise their rights or disrupted the event’s order without causing serious harm to others.

The January gathering drew controversy after a group of young protesters, some reportedly underage, arrived with signs reading “Illegal support – dirty politics” and “Convicted antisemite liar.” Police removed the minors from the venue, sparking debate on social media. An internal police review later found no wrongdoing by officers.

Žemaitaitis, leader of the far-right Nemuno Aušra party, was convicted in December of inciting hatred and Holocaust denial but has appealed the ruling. His voter meetings have repeatedly drawn protests and police intervention.
