Fake Edvinas Grikšas Facebook account spreads investment scam
A fake Facebook account impersonating Lithuania’s Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas is being used to lure people into a financial scam, the Economy and Innovation Ministry (EIM) warned on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, fraudsters using the account have been sending messages to residents, inviting them to join a supposed “WhatsApp stock club.” The messages promise free investment advice and analysis of shares in major companies such as Microsoft, NVIDIA, Tesla, and Apple.
The ministry emphasised that neither Minister Grikšas nor the EIM engages in any investment activities or invites people to join investment groups. Residents are urged not to respond to such messages, avoid clicking on any links, and refrain from sharing personal or financial information. The fake account should be reported to Facebook administrators.
Official information about the minister can only be found on the EIM’s verified communication channels (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn) and the minister’s personal accounts, the ministry noted.
