The Freedom Party has confirmed its leader, Vytautas Mitalas, as its candidate for Vilnius mayor, LRT reported. The decision was made at a general meeting of the party’s Vilnius branch on Saturday.

Mitalas said he wanted to continue strengthening the city’s growth, improve public services and create better conditions for residents and businesses. His priorities include world-class education, a 15-minute city, economic growth and safety, supported by well-functioning infrastructure.

The party also presented a list of nearly 70 candidates for Vilnius city council, including teachers, civic activists, business representatives and experienced politicians. Former interior minister Eimutis Misiūnas, businessperson Adomas Bukauskas and teacher Alius Avčininkas have joined the party.

Former members of parliament Morgana Danielė and Monika Ošmianskienė will also run for council. All current members of the Freedom Party’s municipal council group plan to seek re-election, including former Vilnius mayor Remigijus Šimašius, group leader Erika Kuročkina and deputy mayor Donalda Meiželytė.

The party will approve its final council candidate list after an open ranking process involving members and supporters on November 23-25. Municipal council and mayoral elections are scheduled for March 7, 2027.
