Parempoolsed re-elect Lavly Perling as party chair

ERR reported that Parempoolsed, an Estonian political party, re-elected Lavly Perling as its chairwoman at a general assembly in Tallinn on Saturday. She was the only candidate.

Speaking at the meeting in Tallinn’s Telliskivi district, Perling criticised both the governing coalition and the parliamentary opposition, saying that neither could restore Estonians’ belief in a better future.

She said painful decisions were needed now to secure a better future and prevent Estonia from following the path of Greece and Latvia, which lost decision-making authority over their public finances during the previous financial crisis.

“We must freeze state spending at the 2026 level and clearly say that next year we must manage with the same level of state expenditure as this year,” Perling said.

Perling also pledged that Parempoolsed would cut taxes. “We offer Estonian people and businesses tax peace and a lower tax burden, with the aim of reducing VAT to 20 percent and income tax to 18 percent within one electoral cycle,” she said.

Kalev Stoicescu, who left the Eesti 200 party a week earlier, also attended the event. He told ERR earlier this week that joining Parempoolsed was entirely possible.

Perling said on Monday that Stoicescu would be welcome to join the party if his political views matched those of Parempoolsed.
