Pärnu literary festival spotlights women’s writing, Siuru and Valgre

The sixth Pärnu Literary Festival will feature more than 20 well-known Estonian writers and programmes on women’s literature, the Siuru literary movement and Raimond Valgre, ERR reports.

The festival will take place on August 15 and feature writers ranging from Riste Sofie Käär to Olavi Ruitlane, and from Kairi Loog to Rein Veidemann.

Its seven themed stages will focus on children, young people, Pärnu, Estonian languages, theatre, discussion forums and book presentations. A separate stage for music with an idea will feature Mari Jürjens, Raimond Valgre and Dagö.

Young people from Sütеvaka will perform the programme “Siuru”. In the courtyard of Johannes Vares Barbarus’ home, Taavi Tõnisson has also created and staged “ÖöTund”, the story of Siuts Vares and Ing Visnapuu, performed by Maria Ehrenberg and Alice Siil.

The “Laps loeb!” programme will run throughout the day. The festival will also include a market selling new books, a second-hand book fair and a book collection and distribution by the RaRa reserve library.

The festival will end with a discussion forum titled “VI Pärnu Literary Festival – the last one?” It will begin at noon and finish at midnight.
