Mysterious objects in the sky were aircraft from an aviation festival

Unusual objects spotted in the sky over the weekend were aircraft participating in an aviation festival in Kaunas, Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre (NKVC) confirmed on Monday.

Residents reported sightings of various flying objects to law enforcement, prompting an NKVC response. According to Darius Buta, an NKVC representative, the public’s vigilance is appreciated, but no rogue drones were detected.

“First, we should thank our community for their alertness and reports about suspicious flying objects. However, we can reassure everyone—there is a very simple explanation. On Saturday, the Kaunas Aviation Festival took place. On Friday, ultralight aircraft from various countries arrived for the event, some with unusual shapes, which could easily be mistaken for drones or similar objects. On Sunday, they returned to their bases, leading to further reports. Authorities identified specific aircraft with clear registration numbers and flight routes,” Buta said.

He encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity by calling 112.

The statement follows public concern over unidentified objects in the sky, which the NKVC clarified were part of the festival’s scheduled flights.
