Ethics watchdog clears MP Razma over remarks about colleague

An ethics commission has found that conservative lawmaker Jurgis Razma did not violate parliamentary conduct rules when he called a colleague an “antisemite, vatnik and idiot” during a debate last December.

The Seimas Ethics and Procedures Commission concluded that Razma’s statement, made in the plenary hall on 9 December 2025, was too general to target any specific person and therefore did not breach the Code of Conduct for State Politicians.

Six members of the commission voted in favour of the decision on Wednesday. The panel also advised Razma to avoid insulting, demeaning or ambiguous language in future.

Razma told the commission that his comment was not intended to refer to a particular moment, arguing that the phrase “came to the microphone” did not indicate when the event occurred. He claimed the remark was made in the abstract and should not be linked to any individual.

The complaint was filed by another MP who argued that Razma’s words created a hostile atmosphere, undermined trust in state institutions and had no place in constructive debate or lawmaking.
