Lithuanian border guards turned back 28 irregular migrants at the border with Belarus in the past 24 hours, the State Border Guard Service said on Thursday, LRT reported.

Latvian border guards turned back 26 migrants on Wednesday. Poland recorded no attempts to cross its border illegally on Tuesday.

Lithuania has barred more than 1,800 irregular migrants from entering the country this year. Last year, people tried more than 1,600 times to enter Lithuania from Belarus at unauthorised locations; the figure was 1,002 the year before.

The influx of migrants from Belarus into the EU’s eastern member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
