A man who urged a 15-year-old to meet for sexual activity and unlawfully possessed amphetamine has been placed under two years of probation supervision, LSM reports. The decision was made by a prosecutor at the South Kurzeme Prosecutor’s Office through a prosecutor’s penal order.
In March 2026, the man contacted the teenager on a dating and social networking platform. Knowing the teenager’s age, he encouraged him to meet at Liepāja beach for sexual activity.
Police found and seized a powder containing 0.0274 grams of amphetamine from the man later that day. He had unlawfully acquired and possessed the substance, with no intention of selling it.
The accused admitted both offences, expressed regret and agreed to end the criminal proceedings with a prosecutor’s penal order. The prosecutor said the sentence took into account the nature of the offences, information about the man, a State Probation Service assessment and circumstances affecting his liability. The man was also ordered to pay 591 euros in procedural costs.
Prosecutors said criminal proceedings may be concluded with a penal order for certain offences punishable by up to five years in prison. They also noted that a person is not considered guilty until guilt has been established under the procedures set out in criminal procedure law.
