Latvian beekeepers won nine awards at the British National Honey Competition in London, where almost 3,000 entrants from 23 countries took part, LSM reported, citing Latvian Radio.

Nineteen beekeepers represented Latvia, earning awards for honey and beeswax samples. Valdis Janovs, one of the award winners, said the result was a strong recognition of the country’s beekeeping community.

Janovs keeps more than 20 hives on rooftops in Riga. He also moves some of them to the Ādaži training ground and later brings them back in search of distinctive honey. He said the bees were being prepared for winter by being cared for, fed and covered, and were beginning to cluster together to keep warm.
