Jaagup Tuisk and Wanda wrote Eesti Laul entry after musical ended

Singers Jaagup Tuisk and Wanda wrote their Eesti Laul entry after starring as the title characters in the musical Romeo and Juliet, ERR reports.

Tuisk is taking part in the song contest for the third time, while Wanda is making her debut. Tuisk advised his stage partner to stay calm, saying the team at the contest was supportive and the two could rely on each other.

They decided together to submit a song after finishing it and seeing potential in it, Wanda said. Their entry, “Kesk öö musta merd,” is deep, Nordic and crisp, she said. Written soon after the musical, it draws on feelings of longing and searching for oneself and another person.

The song came naturally in Estonian, Tuisk said, adding that it sounded best in that language.
