Riga, state celebrations, traffic

Riga will introduce traffic restrictions from November 9 for Latvia’s November state celebrations, including closures and changes to some public transport routes. Gathering on Vanšu Bridge will be prohibited, LSM reported.

Restrictions for Lāčplēsis Day

Bāriņu Street will be closed to traffic from 8 p.m. on November 9 until noon on November 12. From 8 a.m. on November 9, stopping and parking will be prohibited on Mazā Nometņu Street between Ojāra Vācieša Street and Kokles Street, and on Hermaņa Street between Ojāra Vācieša Street and Bāriņu Street.

On November 11, 11 November Embankment will be closed between the Stone Bridge and Vanšu Bridge from 5 p.m. to midnight. Parking will also be prohibited from 3 p.m. on November 10 until midnight on November 11 on the parallel street beside the embankment, between Poļu Gate and Bīskapa Gate.

Restrictions for Latvia’s Proclamation Day

From 8 p.m. on November 16 until 11 p.m. on November 18, stopping and parking will be prohibited on 11 November Embankment between the Stone Bridge and Customs Street, as well as on the parallel street. The embankment will be closed to traffic from the afternoon of November 17 until the evening of November 18.

A military parade rehearsal will take place on November 17. The Stone Bridge may be closed briefly during the rehearsal. On November 18, it will be closed to traffic for about one to two hours during the parade. Public transport will continue to run in both cases.

Vanšu Bridge will remain open to pedestrians, but gathering on the bridge will not be allowed. For security reasons, only the National Armed Forces may use drones during the state celebrations; residents are asked not to fly drones at event locations.

Riga will also host the Staro Rīga light festival during the state holiday period, with traffic restrictions planned in some parts of the city.
