Jazzkaar names first artists for 2027 festival
Jazzkaar has announced the first artists for its 2027 festival, including Maria Faust, Marquis Hill and Paula and Dora Morelenbaum, ERR reports. The 38th edition will take place in late April and early May.
Maria Faust will open the festival with her work “Marches Rewound & Rewritten”. With her ensemble Sacrum Facere, she explores march music and recurring social patterns, including hierarchy, dictatorships and elements of propaganda in music and lyrics. The work has brought Faust the most recognition of her compositions and earned her the German Music Critics’ Award.
On April 27, trumpeter Marquis Hill will perform in Estonia for the first time with his group Blacktet. Hill has performed with jazz artists including Marcus Miller, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Boney James, Kurt Elling, Joe Lovano and Chicago contemporary Makaya McCraven.
Brazilian composer Antônio Carlos Jobim, known as Tom Jobim, would have turned 100 in 2027. On May 1, Paula Morelenbaum will perform his music. She sang in Jobim’s band for 10 years. Her daughter Dora Morelenbaum will join her. Dora performed to a full house at Jazzkaar in 2024 and is also a member of Grammy-winning quartet Bala Desejo.
Jazzkaar 2027 will run from April 24 to May 1 in Tallinn’s Telliskivi Creative City and in other Estonian cities. The full programme will be announced in December 2026.
