Lithuania will take over the rotating presidency of the Baltic Assembly on January 1 for a one-year term, LRT reported on Monday. Lithuanian MP Giedrius Drukteinis, who heads the Seimas delegation to the organisation, was elected its new president at the Assembly’s 45th session in Tallinn.
Lithuania’s main priority for 2027 will be investment in shared security and resilience, according to a statement from the Seimas.
“In an increasingly unpredictable world, we must be ready not only to respond to threats but also to anticipate them. By working together, sharing our experience and combining our capabilities, we strengthen all three Baltic states,” Drukteinis said.
Other priorities are investment in a stronger, more unified voice for the Baltic states, and investment in knowledge, innovation and future generations. Drukteinis said cooperation should extend beyond parliaments and governments, creating practical opportunities for citizens, businesses, communities and young people in all three countries.
The Baltic Assembly is an organisation for international cooperation among the parliaments of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia. It was founded in Tallinn in November 1991, and its secretariat is based in Riga.
