Artist Gunta Randla will open an exhibition of 18 portraits of prominent Estonian cultural and media figures in Tallinn on November 12, ERR reports. The exhibition, titled “With Pixels and a Brush,” will be shown at the house at Poska 15 in Kadriorg.

The portraits include theatre director and educator Merle Karusoo; television journalists Karmel Killandi, Mati Talvik and Hardi Tiidus; presenter Reet Linna; journalist and politician Maire Aunaste; film director Mark Soosaar; musicians Joosep Sang and Tõnu Raadik; painter Mari Roosvalt; textile artist Anu Raud; and fashion designer Kirill Safonov.

Others portrayed include Teoteater director Piret Viisimaa, Nature Omnibus organiser Piret Reimann, Aruküla cultural director Garina Tomingas, glass artist Laura Šmideberga, and cultural events organiser Valter Koppel with his wife. The exhibition also includes a self-portrait and a painting of Randla’s grandchildren.

Randla said she aimed to capture moments spontaneously and show something of the subjects’ work and professional backgrounds. “Each painting reflects my personal view and perception of the person, and my wish to convey more than just outward likeness,” she said.

The exhibition’s title refers to its combination of photography, digital editing, digital images printed on canvas and painting in various techniques. Randla used visual material made available to her with ERR’s permission. Her friend Viivi Jokk helped with the digital work.

The exhibition runs until December 30, 2026.
