Estonia will switch to winter time overnight on Sunday, October 25, turning clocks back one hour from 4 a.m. to 3 a.m., ERR reported. The change returns the country to standard time.
All European Union member states will also switch to winter time.
The Labour Inspectorate says the change may give some people an extra hour of sleep, but can add an hour to the shift of employees working overnight. The clock change does not automatically extend an agreed working shift: an employee whose usual shift lasts eight hours is not required to work nine hours solely because of the change.
A longer shift must be agreed between the employer and employee. Without such an agreement, an employee may finish after working eight actual hours. Every hour worked must be paid, including a ninth hour worked because of the clock change.
