Maarja village and school students help clear leaves at museum
More than 30 students from Maarja Village and Tartu Maarja School helped rake leaves at the Karilatsi Open-Air Museum in Põlva County on Thursday, ERR reported. The museum had been concerned about clearing leaves across its five-hectare grounds.
The students, from a study group at Räpina Horticultural School and from Tartu Maarja School, worked for a few hours, giving the museum grounds and surrounding area a tidier appearance.
Räpina Horticultural School teacher Andres Kohv said the work was also part of the students’ education. It gives students who need more support a chance to practise work suited to their needs, he said.
“We rake the leaves and soon we’ll go to lunch,” said student Mati. “The leaves need to be raked into piles and taken away before winter comes.”
Kohv said the students also learned about the steps involved in maintaining the grounds, including collecting and composting the leaves and what happens to them afterward.
