Latvia’s Food and Veterinary Service has ordered a Polish-made chicken fillet withdrawn from sale after detecting salmonella, LSM reported.

The bacteria were found in a product from batch 6450747473, made by Animex Food and distributed by wholesaler Sanitex. The service urged consumers to cook the meat thoroughly by frying or boiling it, use kitchen utensils reserved for the product, and carefully wash surfaces, utensils and hands after preparation. Heat treatment kills salmonella. Consumers who cannot follow these precautions should not eat the product, the service said.

In a separate laboratory check, the service found excessive total water content in another Polish-origin chicken breast product and informed its manufacturer. Notices about the findings were entered into the European Union’s Rapid Alert System.
