A sculpture exhibition created by professional artists and students will open on Thursday at the University of Tartu Botanical Garden, ERR reports.

“Inherited Light II” features installations by sculptors Anne Rudanovski, Tiiu Kirsipuu and Per William Petersen, alongside third-year sculpture students from Pallas University of Applied Sciences. The students are working in three teams, developing independent installations inspired by the artists’ work.

The exhibition explores dialogue between generations and the passing on of artistic knowledge, skills and ideas. The works take account of the effects of materials, space and light.

This year, three temporary greenhouses in the botanical garden’s outdoor area will be transformed into separate art environments. The works are designed to make an impact after dark as well.

The “Inherited Light” project began through a collaboration between Pallas and the Estonian Sculptors’ Association. The first exhibition was held in 2023 at the Rapla Contemporary Art Centre, where students’ work was shown in dialogue with professional sculptors’ creations. The project continued in 2024 at the Pallas Gallery as part of a light biennale.

The exhibition is part of the Tartu Light Biennale’s supplementary programme and will run until November 21. Silja Truus and Elo Liiv are the curators and mentors.
