Prosecutors are seeking 5,105.44 euros from Lithuanian MP Antanas Nedzinskas over expenses claimed while he served on the Trakai District Municipal Council. The civil case has begun at the Vilnius Regional District Court in Trakai, LRT reported.

The Prosecutor General’s Office says the claim is for unjust enrichment and includes the more than 2,000 euros cited during a pre-trial investigation. Prosecutors are also seeking annual interest of 5% and legal costs. The Trakai District Municipality Administration is participating in the case as a third party.

Nedzinskas said the amount sought had changed, making it difficult for him to know which figure was correct. He said he had been willing to compromise in mediation but disagreed with the prosecutor’s position, including how many council meetings he had attended. “From the outside, it looks as if the prosecution’s appetite grows as it eats,” he told ELTA. He said the court would decide whether the claim was justified.

The claim concerns expenses incurred while Nedzinskas served as a Trakai District Municipal Council member from December 17, 2020, to April 14, 2023. Prosecutors previously said he may have appropriated 2,018 euros in municipal funds by claiming fuel costs, while documents indicated that the fuel had been paid for using seven different payment cards.

The pre-trial investigation was discontinued on November 25, 2025, because the Seimas had not consented to Nedzinskas being prosecuted. The Seimas had declined to lift his legal immunity. Prosecutors had sought to bring charges relating to possible misappropriation of property, abuse of office and the falsification and use of documents.

The case is part of wider scrutiny of municipal politicians’ expense claims following the “Skaidrinam” investigation, initiated by public figure Andrius Tapinas.
