Arson attempt targets SpaceX premises housing Starlink equipment
An attempt was made early Sunday to set fire to premises in Vilnius rented by SpaceX, where the company operates infrastructure for its Starlink network, the head of Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Centre said, according to LRT.
The incident happened at about 2 a.m. and was contained, Vilmantas Vitkauskas told reporters. He said the infrastructure forms part of the Starlink network, which provides communications for residents, businesses and the military.
BNS reported that the incident took place on the grounds of the Delska data centre. Vitkauskas said the suspects were being sought. A pre-trial investigation into the attempted arson has been launched, BNS reported.
Vitkauskas described the incident as unique. He said the company had been contacted and warned a day or two beforehand, and urged businesses to follow security recommendations.
He also linked the incident to events in Bulgaria and Poland in September and October, saying they appeared to be part of an attempt by Russia to disrupt Starlink and affect the success of Ukrainian operations.
