Merilin Piipuu, the newly elected chair of the Estonia council, says the national opera and ballet will conduct a satisfaction survey in the coming weeks. She told ERR the survey is intended to provide a systematic overview of the organisation.

The council discussed a public appeal by Estonia soloists that emerged last week, as well as a recent letter from the opera and ballet’s department heads. Piipuu said the council would first use the survey to identify concerns before deciding on next steps. Every concern and individual mattered, she said, and issues would be discussed at council meetings.

Piipuu said her first priority in the new role was to meet the director general. She has sent a greeting to the organisation and expects their cooperation to be close and focused on work.

The council’s former chair, Ivari Ilja, announced his resignation this week. Piipuu described the council’s current internal atmosphere as very good, saying its first discussion under her chairmanship was constructive and remained on schedule. The council will meet as often as necessary, with its next meeting planned for early November.
