Cēsis children vote for strawberry cake, table tennis and a youth night

Children and teenagers in Cēsis Municipality chose strawberry cake, outdoor table tennis and a youth night in a vote held alongside Latvia’s parliamentary elections on Saturday, LSM reports.
A total of 2,680 young voters cast ballots at 11 polling stations as part of the “Democracy begins in the family” project, with turnout reaching 39.5%. Cēsis accounted for 59.6% of the votes, while the other polling stations accounted for 40.4%.
Preschool children aged 1.5 and older chose a cake for national holiday celebrations at their preschools. Strawberry cake was the favourite at 10 of the 11 polling stations. The exception was Cēsis 1st Basic School, where 37 children chose chocolate cake and 31 chose strawberry. Honey cake came third, with 193 votes, or 21%.
Pupils in grades 1 to 6 voted for an active leisure option they would like in their community. An outdoor table tennis table won 40.5% of the vote and was the top choice at 10 polling stations. In Straupe, an outdoor teqball table came first, with 40 votes to 23 for table tennis. Large-format chess or draughts received 25.5%, while 13.3% chose a Novuss table or board games.
Students in grades 7 to 12 voted on an event they would like to attend in Cēsis Municipality in 2027. A youth night was the clear winner at all 11 polling stations, receiving 240 votes, or 55.2%. A youth music festival received 89 votes and a youth sports festival 75. A young talent festival was the least popular option.
