Police arrest two men over Bauska kidnapping and assault

Two men have been arrested and remanded in custody over the kidnapping and beating of a man in Bauska, LSM reports, citing the State Police.

Police said they received information on June 30 that several people had used violence to abduct a man born in 2002 during the night of June 26, following a dispute over property. They took him to an apartment in Bauska, where he was beaten with various objects for several hours.

The attackers then tied his hands, put a bag over his head and placed him in a car boot before driving him to a forest. He was beaten again and left there.

Two men, born in 2001 and 2007, were arrested on September 23. Police searches at their homes uncovered substances suspected to be drugs, which have been sent for examination. Both men had previously come to police attention over offences committed under the influence of intoxicating substances.

On September 24, a court ordered both men held in custody. Police have opened a criminal case under the law on kidnapping by an organized group. The offence carries a prison sentence of three to 12 years, with or without confiscation of property, and probation supervision for up to three years, or no supervision.

Police said no one is considered guilty until their guilt has been proven according to law.
