Fatal crash closes Jelgava-Dalbe road

A person was killed and two others were taken to hospital after a van and a car collided on the Jelgava-Dalbe road on Wednesday morning, LSM reported.

The crash happened shortly before 9am near the turn to Cenu, according to the State Police. A van travelling from Jelgava swerved into the opposite lane while trying to avoid a vehicle ahead that had braked sharply. It collided with a Škoda travelling towards Jelgava.

The person who died was in the car. Another person from the Škoda and the van’s driver were taken to hospital.

The State Fire and Rescue Service said two people got out of the vehicles before its crews arrived. Rescuers removed the deceased person from the car, disconnected the vehicle batteries and cleared the roadway.
