ETV2, an Estonian television channel, will dedicate its Sunday evening programming to the 65th birthday of musician and entertainer Onu Bella, whose real name was Igor Maasik, ERR reported.
At 7:30 p.m., the channel will show Onu Bella: Entering a New World (2021), Vahur Kersna’s television documentary about the rise, work and fate of Igor Maasik, also known as Onu Bella, described as the brightest pop star of Estonia’s transition period and the country’s first shock rocker. The programme was directed by Margus Aasna and produced by Ruth Heinmaa.
At 9 p.m., ETV2 will broadcast Mattiisen’s Students (1992), an entertainment programme featuring Alo Mattiisen and Onu Bella. The author was Vahur Kersna and the director was Priit Hummel.
At 9:15 p.m., the schedule continues with Jüri Üdi Club: Whose Song Do You Sing? (2012). The programme explores who writes the texts used in popular music and why good, sometimes overly good, words and messages are attached to it. It also discusses the movement of poetry into pop music, with Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan absent, while XX and YY are present and proclaim the truth.
At 10:40 p.m., ETV2 will show Free Programme: Onu Bella’s Clown Musical (1993). That year, Onu Bella, his manager Aarne Valmis and librettist Merle Jääger decided to surprise audiences by bringing the scandalist known as a shock rocker to the stage in the leading role of a gentle children’s production.
The musical was first introduced to the Estonian public in Vahur Kersna’s programme Free Programme. The editor was Neit-Eerik Nestor.
