Ukraine attacked the Saratov oil refinery overnight, causing several fires, while attacks were also reported in other Russian regions, ERR reported.
Ukrainian drones struck strategic targets in Saratov Region on the night of November 7 after travelling more than 1,000 kilometres, according to social media posts cited by the article. Videos posted online showed fires at the refinery, which is owned by Rosneft.
An air raid alert was issued in the region at 2:42 a.m. Flights at Saratov airport were suspended and emergency services were placed on heightened alert. Residents later heard numerous explosions, reportedly near the refinery. Early on Saturday, regional governor Roman Busargin had not commented on the aftermath, saying only that warning systems could operate in areas facing a possible threat. The city administration had also not commented.
The refinery processes about seven million tonnes of oil a year into products including petrol, diesel and aviation fuel. Ukraine’s General Staff says it supplies fuel and lubricants to the Russian army and is therefore a legitimate military target. Ukrainian forces have attacked the refinery before.
Other targets reported in Russia
Dialog.ua reported attacks elsewhere in Russia, including on a factory in Oryol and a fire at a warehouse in Rostov-on-Don.
Explosions were reported near the Proton factory in Oryol, which is part of Russia’s military-industrial complex. The region’s governor, Andrei Klychkov, said a production building at a business in the city’s Sovetsky district had been damaged but did not name the company. OSINT analysts cited by the Telegram channel Ukraina365 identified it as the Proton-Elektroteks factory.
The factory produces electronic components used in Russian military equipment, including systems associated with Iskander-M missiles and Pantsir-S1 air defence systems. Russian Telegram channels speculated that Ukrainian Flamingo missiles may have been used, but the claim has not been confirmed.
A large fire also broke out at a warehouse on Tupolev Street in Rostov-on-Don. Initial reports said it stored oils and polymer materials and that the fire covered about 8,000 square metres, possibly spreading to nearby buildings. There is no information that Ukraine attacked the warehouse, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
