Police to intensify road safety checks for a week

Police in European Union member states, including Latvia, will intensify road safety monitoring from September 16 to 22 as part of the annual Roadpol Safety Days campaign, LSM reports.

This year, officers will pay particular attention to vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, moped riders and electric scooter users. Police will also step up checks on the use of seat belts and child safety seats, as well as compliance with speed limits.

September 17 will be observed as the European Day Without Road Deaths or Serious Injuries. The campaign aims to ensure that no one is killed or seriously injured in road crashes on European roads that day.

In Latvia, 66 people have died in crashes this year, while 175 road users have been injured.
