Vilnius to plant more than 55,000 new plants this autumn

More than 55,000 new plants are planned for planting in Vilnius this autumn, LRT reported, citing the city municipality.

The plan includes 941 trees, 22,300 shrubs and more than 32,000 herbaceous plants. The new greenery will be planted along renovated streets and in residential districts, where community planting events will be held.

Some of the planting will take place as part of street improvement works on sections of Švitrigailos, Panerių, Kauno, Naugarduko, T. Ševčenkos and A. Vivulskio streets.

Three community planting events are also planned this autumn on Justiniškių, Baltrušaičio and Medeinos streets. Oaks, linden trees, pines, birches, maples, beeches, hornbeams and rowans will be planted, along with dogwoods, chokeberries, guelder roses, spireas and other shrubs.

“Greening in Vilnius is taking place consistently. More than 2,700 trees were planted in spring, and nearly 1,000 more will be planted in autumn,” Gintautas Runovičius, head of the City Environment Division at the Vilnius municipal administration, said in a statement.

According to the municipality, 2,700 trees, 16,200 shrubs and 31,800 herbaceous plants were planted in Vilnius during the spring planting season.
