LSM, together with its Youth Content Editorial Team, has published a video asking candidates in Latvia’s 15th Saeima elections whether women should also be conscripted into the National Defence Service.
The video features Ainārs Šlesers of Latvia First, Jūlija Stepaņenko of Sovereign Power and New Latvians, Daniēls Āboliņš of We Change the Rules, Andris Šuvajevs of the Progressives, Daiga Mieriņa of the Union of Greens and Farmers, Arvils Ašeradens of New Unity, Jānis Grasbergs of the National Alliance, Andris Kulbergs of the United List, Svetlana Čulkova of Stability!, and Ivars Ijabs of Development/For.
The question is part of LSM’s “Politicians’ quick test”, which presents candidates with important issues and asks for short answers. The series is being produced twice a week during the election campaign.
LSM invited representatives of parties that received at least 2 percent support in SKDS party ratings in July and August to participate.
Election schedule
The 15th Saeima elections will take place on Saturday, October 3. Polling stations will be open from 8am to 8pm, and voters will be able to cast their ballots at any polling station.
From September 28 until election day, voters will also be able to deposit their ballots for safekeeping at all polling stations in Latvia during designated hours.
The newly elected 15th Saeima will convene for its first sitting on November 3, when the mandate of the 14th Saeima will end.
