Tartu Art House opens three new exhibitions

Tartu Art House will open three new exhibitions this weekend, ERR reports. The exhibitions feature the work of Siiri Jüris, Melissa Sammalvaara, and Loora Kaubi and Erik Hõim.

Jüris’s exhibition, “Like an Echo in the Blackish, Warm Dusk,” will be shown in the art house’s large hall. It brings together works created by Jüris in Sweden over the past five years and offers an overview of current trends in her practice.

Jüris considers herself a landscape painter, and landscapes are a constant presence in her work. At the same time, her paintings repeatedly feature a natural and instinctive amorphousness that makes it difficult to determine where the boundaries between different elements lie.

Sammalvaara’s “Lichen” will be displayed in the small hall. The exhibition presents a world where the traditional Finnish technique of weaving ryijy rugs meets a contemporary form of expression.

Based on centuries-old Finnish weaving traditions, the works interpret ryijy fabric as a contemporary medium that is lush, tactile and expressive.

Kaubi and Hõim’s exhibition “Patching and Stumbling,” in the Monumental Gallery, is based on memories of different places and stories. The stories address an old need: how to be with people who can no longer be with us, and how to say words that have come too late.

The exhibitions will remain open until October 4.
