Estonia, thunderstorms, weather

Estonia will see widespread showers, heavy rain and possible thunderstorms on Friday as a low-pressure system moves across the country, ERR reports.

Cloud cover will increase overnight as a zone of precipitation spreads northeast from the Gulf of Riga. Many areas may receive heavy rain, with thunderstorms also possible. Southerly winds will be moderate, strengthening around the Gulf of Riga with gusts of up to 18 metres per second. Temperatures will range from 8 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Rain will be heaviest in the morning around the Gulf of Riga and in central Estonia, where the risk of thunderstorms will remain. Southerly winds will reach gusts of up to 13 metres per second in southern Estonia, while southwesterly winds around the Gulf of Riga may gust up to 17 metres per second. Temperatures will be between 11 and 16 degrees.

Showers will continue during the day, with heavy precipitation in several places. Clouds and rain will begin to clear from the northwest in the afternoon. Winds will turn northerly from the islands, while southerly and southwesterly winds in southern Estonia may gust up to 18 metres per second. Daytime temperatures will reach 13 to 18 degrees.

Saturday will bring frequent rain showers, which will become less common by evening. Westerly winds will strengthen, with temperatures of 7 to 15 degrees overnight and 14 to 18 degrees during the day.

There will be fewer showers overnight on Sunday, while more widespread but mostly short-lived showers are expected during the day. Rainfall amounts should remain relatively small. The forecast for the beginning of next week calls for isolated showers and daytime temperatures of up to 20 degrees.
