Rain and winds of up to 20 m/s forecast for Lithuania

Rainy and windy weather is expected in parts of Lithuania this weekend, LRT reports, citing the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service.

Southwesterly winds on the coast will strengthen during the first half of Friday night, with gusts reaching 15 to 17 m/s. During the day, southwesterly gusts of 15 to 18 m/s are expected in some parts of northwestern Lithuania.

On Saturday, southwesterly and westerly winds at night and westerly and northwesterly winds during the day will reach 15 to 20 m/s in many areas. Forecasters expect the strongest winds in western and southern districts.

The gusts are not expected to reach hazardous levels. However, the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service advises residents to remove from balconies and yards any objects that could be lifted by the wind, or to secure them firmly.

Brief rain is expected in many districts, with locally heavy rainfall of at least 15 mm within no more than 12 hours. Western districts could receive between 30 and 70 mm of rain.
