Vaariku, Lesta and Lüüsi premiere new work at Ekspeditsioon

Marika Vaariku, Lauri Lesta and Urmas Lüüsi will premiere their production What Has Been Written in My Flesh at the Ekspeditsioon studio on Saturday, September 5, ERR reported.

The production explores the space between worlds, combining theatre with a spatial installation, a collage of soundscapes and an anthropological observation.

“A person is on stage, but they are not the protagonist. They are in Space, in an ordinary apartment building,” the creators said. “The person is at the mercy of Space, which has its own will and the ability to dictate the course of events.”

The performance portrays Space as demanding servitude from its residents while offering domestic warmth, security, shelter and a roof over their heads. In return, residents repair the roof, scrub floors, change wallpaper, fix a loose table leg, wash clothes, beat carpets, submit water-meter readings, clean the stairwell, heat the stove and carry out other everyday tasks.

According to the creators, everyday moments and existential outbursts emerge in the production. Its focus is reality, and perhaps hyperreality, including everything that takes place in every Space and goes unnoticed.
