Social Democrats reach highest support in two years, Norstat finds

Support for Estonia’s Social Democratic Party has risen to 15.3 percent, its highest level in two years, ERR reported, citing a poll commissioned by the Institute for Social Research and conducted by Norstat.

Isamaa remains the leading party with 25.3 percent, followed by the Centre Party on 21.7 percent. Isamaa’s lead over the Centre Party is 3.6 percentage points.

The Social Democrats are in third place, 6.4 percentage points behind the Centre Party. Their support was last higher than the current level in early September 2024.

The Reform Party follows with 12.9 percent, ahead of the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia on 12.7 percent, Estonia 200 on 1.6 percent and the Parempoolsed party on 6.7 percent.

Coalition parties were supported by a combined 14.5 percent of respondents, while 75 percent backed parties in opposition in the Estonian Parliament.

Based on the poll results, Isamaa would win 29 seats in the 101-member parliament, the Centre Party 24, the Social Democrats 16, the Reform Party 13, the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia 13 and Parempoolsed six.

In a separate monthly assessment, 35 percent of respondents said the government was doing its job very well or rather well. Sixty percent said it was doing its job rather poorly or very poorly.

Twenty-five percent approved of Prime Minister Kristen Michal’s performance, while 60 percent disapproved.

The latest results cover polling conducted from August 3 to 29 among 4,000 Estonian citizens of voting age.
