Video claims Russia is reinforcing Narva River bank

A video circulating online claims that Russia is reinforcing the bank of the Narva River with crushed stone near Lake Peipus, ERR reported. The Police and Border Guard Board has not confirmed the authenticity of the video or the activity shown in it.

The footage reportedly shows work near Vasknarva, a settlement close to Lake Peipus. A resident of Vasknarva told ERR that noise had been coming from across the border for several days, but said there was no visual confirmation of what was taking place on the other side of the river.

Veiko Kommusaar, deputy director general of the Police and Border Guard Board responsible for border guard matters, said the agency could not comment on activities on the other side of the state border or on the actions of another country’s authorities.

“We continuously monitor developments related to Estonia’s security and border safety and cooperate with other security authorities to maintain a comprehensive overview of the situation,” Kommusaar said.

The agency urged people to treat information circulating on social media critically, noting that much content online is created with artificial intelligence. It advised checking the origin of information, seeking confirmation from reliable media outlets and following official statements from authorities before drawing conclusions.

The Police and Border Guard Board said it was continuously monitoring developments on the eastern border and assessing their potential impact on Estonia’s security and border safety. It said that any information or activity requiring public notification or additional measures would be announced through official channels.

The video was also shared on X by Anton Gerashchenko, who said local residents had posted footage claiming that Russia was building gravel embankments along the Narva River near a border crossing with Estonia.
