Latvia’s Unity party board has resigned following the parliamentary election results, LSM reported. A new board is expected to be elected at the party congress on November 28, New Unity alliance board chair and Unity board member Evika Siliņa announced on social media.

Siliņa said the party would focus on hearing from young people and new members before the congress, gathering ideas for changes. She described the election results as a “yellow card” that should prompt the party to review its decisions and how it communicates with the public.

The former prime minister said Unity needed to change, listen more closely to voters and speak with people more often, directly and clearly. She also called for more open dialogue with the public to better understand voters’ expectations and what changes they want to see.

Unity’s board had 14 members, including chair Edmunds Jurēvics, deputy chairs Raimonds Čudars and Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, and Siliņa, as well as Arvils Ašeradens, Rihards Kozlovskis, Vilnis Ķirsis and Inese Lībiņa-Egnere.

Siliņa also said a statement was expected on Monday from the United List alliance on its next steps and possible talks with the current coalition partners. Unity is the core party of the New Unity alliance.
