Palanga signs €2.6m contract for Šventoja community centre

Palanga Municipality has signed a €2.6 million construction contract with Klaipėda-based company Ivro to build a community centre in Šventoja, LRT reported.

The centre will serve as a multifunctional space for public services and cultural events. “This is an important and long-awaited project. We want residents to have a modern, welcoming and accessible place where they can not only receive necessary services but also gather and communicate,” Palanga Municipality administration director Ramunė Olšauskaitė-Urbonienė said in a statement.

A single-storey building with an attic will be built on Šventosios Street, next to the local administrative office. It will include a 150-seat events hall, a library, a post office, administrative spaces, a fire and rescue service facility and an ambulance post.

The building will have space for 20 employees, as well as a café and exhibitions of artworks. A shelter will also be installed, while a car park, events square and leisure areas will be built nearby.

The project is scheduled to take 26 months, with the option of extending the deadline by a further five months, the municipality said. A construction permit was issued on August 12, according to data from Infostatyba.lt.

The municipality announced the construction tender for the third time in May. The first tender failed because no suitable bids were received or the proposed prices exceeded the planned budget, while no bids were submitted in the second tender.

The project was designed by Archko. It is being financed from the Palanga municipal budget, while opportunities to secure state and European Union funding are also being explored.
