Composer Age Veeroos selected for prestigious Berlin artists programme

Estonian composer Age Veeroos has been selected for the Berliner Künstlerprogramm residency run by the German Academic Exchange Service, ERR reported. She is one of 17 artists chosen from 2,100 applicants.

The programme supports outstanding creators from different artistic fields and gives them the opportunity to work in Berlin and develop creative projects. It brings international artists together, encourages meetings and collaboration, and supports the creation of new works and projects.

The programme is open to established artists with a distinctive creative style and international recognition. It is not intended for emerging artists or students.

In music and sound art, the programme primarily accepts composers and composer performers whose work is distinctive, innovative and artistically ambitious. Four grants are awarded in this category each year.

Veeroos was selected by an international jury alongside Lamin Fofana of Sierra Leone and the United States, Abdullah Miniawy of Egypt and France, and Laura Ortman of the United States.

Born in 1973, Veeroos has been a member of the Estonian Composers’ Union since 2003. She studied composition at the Heino Eller Tartu Music School and earned a master’s degree with honours at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under Helena Tulve and Eino Tamberg. She also pursued further studies at the Karlsruhe University of Music with Wolfgang Rihm.
