Daniel Levi releases home-inspired album Home Away From Home

Estonian musician Daniel Levi has released his new eight-track album Home Away From Home, inspired by the broad meaning of home, ERR reported on Friday.

The songs were written over recent years in London, Amsterdam, Helsinki and Tallinn. Levi said the album explores places and experiences people have moved on from but that continue to accompany them.

Levi had several childhood homes, including homes on Baytree Street in Ohio in the United States and on Jaama Street and Starkopfi Street in Tartu. The home on Starkopfi Street repeatedly returned to his thoughts while he was writing the album.

“I had not previously thought much about what that place meant to me or what I had taken with me from there,” Levi said. “While writing these songs, I began to notice more and more that very different themes somehow led back to the time when I first felt and experienced many things.”

He said the album was not directly a look back at childhood, although nostalgia played a role. Instead, he realised that those feelings had simply stayed with him. The album’s title came from the idea that no matter how far people travel from home, something always comes with them.

Levi created the title track and much of the album with his longtime collaborator, Dutch producer and songwriter Clifford Goilo. Belgian artist Olivia, Anett and Sander Mölder also appear on the album. Ashley Krajewski mixed the songs, while Chris Pavey handled the mastering.

Levi will present the album on September 12 at the Fonoteek venue in Tallinn. Album-presentation concerts are also scheduled for September 30 in London, October 7 in Stockholm, October 8 in Gothenburg and October 10 in Malmö.
