Lithuania says no confirmation of climber’s body in Kyrgyzstan

Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told LRT that it has no official information confirming that the body of a Lithuanian citizen who died in the Kyrgyz mountains has been found.

The ministry said the Lithuanian Embassy in Kazakhstan currently had no official information that the body had been located. It added that, without the consent of the individuals or their relatives, it could not provide the media with information about the people involved or the circumstances of the incident, citing their privacy.

LRT reported that rescuers in Kyrgyzstan had found the bodies of two missing climbers at the Kurumdy summit on Tuesday and begun preparing to lower them from the mountains. The search for a third climber is continuing.

The missing group included Belarusians Maksim Poliansky and Mikalai Sviridov, as well as Lithuanian citizen Sergei Rubtsov. According to the Belarusian independent outlet Nasha Niva, rescuers found the bodies of two group members on Monday and were preparing to lower them. The location of the third climber was still being determined, while communication with the camp remained one-way.
